4 Days From Tangier to Tetouan and Chefchaouen

Day 1 : Tangier – Caves Of Hercules – Tetouan

The route starts in Tangier, a city in the north of Morocco which is usually the entrance to this country. This is where you start to feel the mystique of Africa. The old medina is very interesting and the views over the sea very attractive. On the way to Tetouan, just 14 km south of Tangier, there is a surprise. The Grotto of Hercules provides a very nice view of the Atlantic Ocean through an opening, whose shape recalls the inverted map of Africa. There was human presence in this grotto approximately 7000 years before J.C.. According to legend, Hercules stayed here after having separated Europe from Africa.

Day 2 : Tetouan – Chefchaouen

The Spanish-Moorish city of Tetouan is a mixture of cultures. The medina is part of the Unesco World Heritage of Humanity. It is a beautiful and authentic place, with markets in the streets, leather tanning and lots of life. In the mellah (Jewish quarter), also called little Jerusalem, the guilds are very well defined. Tetouan is known for its importance for the craft trades. You should visit the Museum of Moroccan Arts to learn more about them. Another important cultural building is the Archaeological Museum.

Day 3 : Chefchaouen

There are many unforgettable places in Morocco, but when you enter inside the medina of Chefchaouen you will immediately fall in love with its blue colors and relaxed atmosphere. The view of the Rif mountains, the castle and the washerwomen’s area also contribute to form a very strong memory of this unique place.
